No they really can't......
'Kim Medcalf, super acting and singing extraudinaire has just been successfully cast to play the lead female role in the hit musical 'Cabaret'. Medcalf is perhaps most well known for magnificently playing the character of Sam Mitchell in BBC1's soap EastEnders, although should be more widely credited for her amazing abilities when on stage. She has recently done a stint in the West End along side Dame Judi Dench, and prior to that belted out the classics from the 1949 musical 'South Pacific'. We're delighted to announce this fantactic news, and can't wait to see this truely phenomenal performer'.

ok i found the topic to put this into. not much but some woman called susie from now magazine wrote this.
--------------------------------------
When ex EastEnder Kim Medcalf rang and invited me to see her in Cabaret I accepted on the basis that she's a lovely girl and it would make a change from the usual showbiz bashes I go to.
Little did I think I'd end up discussing high heels with my old nemesis Steve McFadden.
I first met the dogging enthusiast as a Daily Mirror rookie about five years ago when he was dating Lucy Benjamin. Because I was the new girl Lucy didn't recognise me as a journalist and drunkenly sobbed to a friend about Steve's refusal to propose whilst I stood beside her subtly putting all her fantastic quotes into my mobile. Nice.
We ran the story the following day and an outraged Steve rang the showbiz desk threatening to throw lager on us. Oooooooohh! Not only did this make him look extremely silly but it also gave us an excuse to run another story ridiculing him. Oops.
Anyway, luckily Steve appears to have forgotten about our spat (admittedly I've avoided him ever since) and he was happy to discuss Kim's amazing performance as Sally Bowles. I happened to be carrying around an LK Bennett bag after collecting some shoes for my mum which led to us discussing ladies footwear. As you do.
Find out what Charlie Brooks and I got up to at the after party in the mag soon but in the meantime, if you can make it to London to see Kim on stage, you should. She and co-star James Dreyfus are nothing short of spectacular. And there's nakedness too – if that's your thing.
I'm going to sign off now cos it's been a long old week and I've been out working every night but one. My ability to string a sentence together is dwindling and I'm beginning to think I'm too old for this game. I seem to be permanently tired.
On the plus side a couple of handsome men have just entered our office. One is a suited and booted waiter delivering chocolate digestives and calling everyone ma'am, the other is handing out packets of Maltesers. Things are looking up. ----------------------------
not much really but it mentioned kim and the title of it was life is a cabaret so i thought id stick it in here.
